By insulating our houses, we reduce the outflow of heat from our homes to the environment. When insulation strikes in our mind, usually or mostly we think about insulating roof, walls, attics, lofts and other ducts. But we generally tend to ignore the floor insulation. They are also one of the major media of loosing heat to the surroundings. Doors, windows and floor usually tend to lose around 45% of the heat. Insulation of the floors generally refers to adding insulating materials above and below the floorboards to trap the heat inside the house. This also helps in improving the thermal performance of the house. Floor insulation totally depends on the type of floor any house has. Majorly we find two types of flooring.
- Suspended timber frame floor
- Concrete slab flooring
Floor insulation for a better living environment
- The average comfort temperature hovers around 20 degrees. So if we talk about barefoot, it is important that the flooring shares the same standards. A non-insulated floor has a temperature of approximately 11 degrees. Insulation can make the temperature rise to 20 degrees.
Advantages of floor insulation
- Water proof
- Bonding properties
- Reduced heat up time
- Lightweight and strong
- Even and sustained heat
- Primer coated
- Easy to install
Kingspan Insulation Board
- Kingspan Insulation is one of the world’s greatest and most trusted manufacturers of insulation board. With broad product range like Kingspan Kooltherm and a diversity of different Kingspan insulation boards, one can install a reliable and well-made product from Kingspan regardless your application.
Floor insulation:
- TF70
- K103
- K3
- Greenguard and Optim-R
Kingspan TF70
- Contains a high geared rigid thermoset insulation core faced on both sides with a low emissivity composite foil facing. Kingspan TF70nis manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
Kingspan K103
The Facings:
- Kingspan Kooltherm K103 Floorboard manufactured at Kingspan Insulation’s Pembridge manufacturing facility is covered on both sides with a coating made from glass fabric, glued to the insulation core during manufacture.
The Core:
- The core of the Kingspan Kooltherm K103 Floorboard is a fibre-free, rigid phenolic insulation made with an inflating agent that has zero ozone-depleting potential (ODP) and low global warming potential (GWP).
Kingspan Optim-R
- With a thermal conductivity of 0.007 W/m K, the Kingspan OPTIM-R floor system offers up to five times the insulation performance of other widely available insulation materials.
- The OPTIM-R flooring system consists of vacuum insulation panels with rigid fillers which can be cut to fit problem areas such as penetrations or load bearing walls.
- In upgrade applications, the system provides solutions for areas that would not have been previously insulated due to insufficient space available or because excavation of materials is impractical.
- In new constructions, the Kingspan OPTIM-R floor system can dramatically improve U-values in areas that would otherwise be accepted as denigrating global thermal performance.
Kingspan Greenguard
- Kingspan GreenGuard Rebated Edge is a fire-free rigid extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation that has the compressive strength required to make it the preferred product for specialized applications such as heavy floorcoverings, parking bridges and inverse roofs.
