Choosing Siniat plasterboard for the job

Square edge or tapered edge?

Square edge (SE) and tapered edge (TE) describe the long-edge profile, not a different core performance. They can suit skimmed work or details where a recessed joint is unnecessary. Edge choice should follow the finishing method and the tested system rather than appearance alone.

Vapourshield: when does a vapour-control plasterboard make sense?

Vapour control is about managing water vapour moving through the construction and reducing the risk of interstitial condensation. The live Siniat Vapourshield listing is a 12.5 x 1200 x 2400mm tapered-edge board with 2.88m² coverage and a vapour-control membrane bonded to the back. It can reduce the number of separate layers needed, but junctions, penetrations and continuity still matter. A vapour-backed board cannot compensate for gaps around sockets, service penetrations or poorly sealed interfaces.

Moistureshield is not the same as waterproofing

Moisture-resistant plasterboard is intended to tolerate specified higher-humidity conditions better than standard board. It should not be treated as a universal waterproof lining. Bathrooms, shower enclosures and other wet areas must be designed as complete systems, including the correct board, tanking or waterproofing where required, compatible adhesive, finish and detailing. What fire resistance does Siniat plasterboard give?

This is the question that is most often answered too loosely. A plasterboard sheet does not carry a universal ‘30-minute’ or ‘60-minute’ fire-resistance value on its own. Siniat states that fire resistance is determined by the complete system. The result depends on the board type and layers, framing, stud centres, insulation, fixings, joints and other construction details. Siniat publishes tested partition, lining and ceiling systems for specified fire periods. Match the full build-up to the required performance rather than choosing a board from its colour or thickness alone.

Fixing and finishing Siniat plasterboard

Standard Siniat plasterboard can be cut by score and snap. Siniat specifies fixings to suit the substrate: high-thread screws for timber, self-tapping screws for thin-gauge metal up to 0.7mm, and self-drilling screws for thicker metal up to 2.5mm in the Standard Board technical data. Fixing centres, board orientation, perimeter details and the number of layers must follow the selected Siniat system. Tapered joints are finished with the compatible jointing system; skim finishes should follow the plaster and board guidance.
